Glen Cove purchased the full TriFIT 600 system in July of 1997 and uses the system to assess their Senior class. Assessments include: Height, Weight, Sit-Ups, 1-Mile Run, Hang or Pull-Up, Modified Sit & Reach and Body Composition. Students input their own data as they perform the assessment.

The Senior Physical Education Project is as follows:

A. Written Project - 2 parts (10 points each part, 3rd quarter)

1. Part 1 - Analyze and compare (choose one)

    a. Health & Fitness Clubs
    b. Activity related facilities (bowling, skating, etc...)
    c. Local parks and recreation

  The report should include:
    a. What is offered at facility
    b. What are costs
    c. What staff is on hand for help
    d. What is needed to participate

2. Part 2 - Analyze and compare (choose one)

    a. Different home fitness equipment
    b.Sports related equipment (skis, rackets, rollerblades, etc.)
    c. Weight loss programs or facilities

The report should include:

    a. Cost
    b. Description
    c. Advantages/Disadvantages
    d. Safety

B. Participation Project - HEALTHFirst/TriFIT Computer (20 points 4th quarter)

Complete the program and evaluate the results. (See Personal Physical Education Assessment Survey)

 

PERSONAL PHYSICAL EDUCATION ASSESSMENT SURVEY

I. List 3 sports or physical activities in which you have demonstrated intermediate to advanced *proficiency:

II. Compare and analyze the results of your New York State Physical Fitness Test from your four years in High School and answer the following questions:

    A. In which component did you show the most improvement?

    B. In which component did you have the most difficulty?

After completing I & II, use the information from your written and participation projects, from Junior and Senior years, to develop a Personal Wellness Plan that you can follow after graduation. Be specific and include activities that you can participate in on a regular basis. Health factors and out of school resources should also be included. Your Personal Wellness Plan must be at least one full typed page. Your wellness plan will be scored according to the attached scale.

*Proficiency = skilled enough to participate safely and confidently in public without embarrassment.

Fitness plan reflects a somewhat honest assessment with recommendations for maintaining or improving levels of fitness in 3 of the 4 major areas. Use of 1 out of school resource is included. Student somewhat understands that proper diet, rest, exercise and avoiding alcohol, drugs and tobacco will help to prevent heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity and chronic back pain. Student's attitude reflects respect and usual demonstration of a healthful living style.

Fitness plan reflects an untruthful assessment with limited recommendations for improving levels of fitness in a few major areas. Out of school resources are mentioned. Student shows little understanding that proper diet, rest, exercise and avoiding alcohol, drugs and tobacco will help to prevent heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity and chronic back pain. Student's attitude reflects tolerance and occasional demonstration of a healthful living style

Student does not accurately identify or show proficiency in at least 1 activity. Fitness plan is untruthful or incomplete with few or no recommendations for improving levels of fitness. Out of school resources are not specified. Student shows no understanding that proper diet, rest, exercise and avoiding alcohol, drugs and tobacco will help to prevent heart disease, cancer, obesity and chronic back pain. Student's attitude reflects complacency and infrequent demonstration of a healthful living style.
