Grades K-4:
TriFIT will be used
at the beginning of the school year to weigh every student in Physical
Education classes. This will begin to familiarize the students with the
machine.
Grades 5-6:
Students will begin
to build a personal fitness profile on the TriFIT computer. The students
will also be asked to perform the Cooper 12 Minute Run and the results
will be entered into the cardiovascular section of their Personal Profile
on the TriFIT. Height and weight information will continue to be collected
and updated. The students will also be introduced to the heart rate monitors
during their Cross Country unit. The monitors will be used to help the
students better understand what heart rate is and why it is important
to them when they exercise.
Grades 7-8:
At this level, the students
will continue to build their personal fitness profile by updating any
previous information and by adding their blood pressure and muscular strength
measurements. The students will learn how the TriFIT measures blood pressure
and muscular strength and learn how to conduct those tests. The students
will also be introduced to some of the basic functions of the heart rate
monitors and how to use them when exercising.
Grades 9-10:
The students will be
introduced to the body composition and health risk appraisal functions
of the TriFIT computer. Each student will complete each of the new assessments
and add those to their profile as well as updating any previous information.
The students will begin using the heart rate monitors during specified
fitness units so that they may exercise in a prescribed heart rate zone.
The students will also learn how to set upper and lower heart rate limits
for various bouts of exercise./P>
Grades 11-12:
At this level, the students
will be introduced to the concept of V02 max and the bike ergometer test
that measures it. The students will learn how to set the TriFIT up to
perform this test and will be able to administer the test to a fellow
student. Every student will have an opportunity to complete this test
and add it to their Personal Profile. The heart rate monitors will continue
to reinforce the importance of regular exercise and to show the students
the different levels of exertion involved in various activities.
