Addison Trail High School is comprised of grades 9-12 and utilizes their eight TriFIT 600 Systems in Physical Education and Health (HRAs).

Requirements for Physical Education at Addison Trail are as follows:

  1. Freshman and Sophomores 1 semester
  2. Juniors and Seniors 1 full year

Freshman and Sophomore students are assessed during the first week of the semester on the TriFIT System and at the end of the semester. Juniors and Seniors are assessed three times per year. At the end of the semester/year, students are provided the comparisons showing results from the first test to the final test and students are graded on their Heart Rate (V02 Max) and Body Composition progress (per medical standards).

Juniors and Seniors are graded on Fitness Concepts and knowing how to perform TriFIT Assessments. The full assessment includes:

  1. Height
  2. Weight
  3. Blood Pressure
  4. Cardiovascular
  5. Strength
  6. Flexibility
  7. Body Composition

The TriFIT System Health Risk Appraisal component is currently being used in the Health classes.

In the Junior year, a student has the choice of signing up for the Junior Leader Program. Within this program, the students are trained and certified in CPR and also spend two and one-half weeks learning the TriFIT System and how to assess others. Then in the Senior year, those who participated in the Junior Leader program become Senior Leaders. There are five Senior Leaders per 5 periods of PE/day. A Senior Leader is stationed at each of 6 TriFIT systems (two more will be ordered next year for a total of 8 TriFIT 600 systems). These Leaders are then responsible for putting the underclassmen through the TriFIT Assessment. They are able to complete 15-20 assessments per period. Teachers are always available to go over information regarding fitness concepts, heart disease risk, etc. When this program was started there were only 12 Senior Leaders. Today they have 70.

The TriFIT System is presented at the Parent Open House meeting at the beginning of the year which is after the initial assessments. Mr. Amabile presents the parents with the status of their children's fitness levels. A very large percentage of the children tested ranked poor to very poor in cardio fitness as well as other areas such as flexibility, etc. Mr. Amabile then provides updates (via the school newsletter to parents), with the results following the students' reassessments. Considerable progress was shown.

Mr. Amabile reports that their students are very enthusiastic about the TriFIT system and actually having their own Personal Profile Report reflecting their assessment results and tips on how how they can improve and/or maintain their health/fitness status.
